Can One Implode From Eating Too Much?

I hope everyone is still enjoying a terrific Holiday Season!  Still eating lots, still watching movies, playing games with the kids, and maybe even doing more shopping!  I have been doing it all...mostly the eating!  I've watched more movies in the last week than I did throughout the whole year!  Honestly, I'm feeling almost like a bum.  I have started a few sewing projects, however, just to get me off the couch...and away from the pie for awhile!  I'll post some photos when they are done.  In the meantime, today is Wednesday and that means it is time for a few Wonderisms! 

1. Is there an age restriction or limit for wearing glittery make-up?  Some of the beauty books advise "women of a certain age" (which means 38+) not to wear frosted eyeshadow or lipstick/lipgloss.  Yet, I've seen photos of older ladies in magazines clearly sporting white frosted eyeshadow. Hmm...do you have to listen to your kids if they tell you they don't think their mom should wear "sparkles" lipgloss?  I think not.
2. How is it that 10 people can be in your home and 9 of them are cat lovers, yet the house cat becomes fixated with the 1 person that clearly does not like cats?  The cat will rub against the legs of that one cat hater.  She will meow at that one person and even sit right next to her when the feline will never get close to any of the other 9?  Does that cat know of the hater and decide she will attempt to convert the one into a cat lover?  Or, is she just trying to annoy the hell out of the hater just because she can...'cause she is a cat?  Yeah, I think so.

Wednesday Wonderisms...

The crazy time is almost over...I know, the Holidays are a wonderful time of year, but, honestly, I am ready for this season to be over.  I sound like a Scrooge, I know..it's just crazy busy.  Anyway, here is my one Wonderism this week:

I am so excited about the response to the 2011 Dress Up Challenge!  I plan to post more detailed information soon, as well as a dress template for those interested in using one.  Although there are no rules about size, etc., some may want a "pre-drawn" dress to use as a starting point for their design, however no one has to use a template.

Here is my wonderism for this week:

Why is it that you never notice those "hangers on," those eyebrow hairs that you thought you plucked until after you leave the house and you don't have a tweezer with you?  Are the mirrors in my house that terrible that I don't notice the unibrow growing on my face until I get to work or, most likely first, in the rear view mirror in my car?  I guess I just need to carry a tweezer with me all the time..would the neighbors think me crazy if they looked out and saw me sitting in my driveway plucking?  Just wondering.

Wednesday Wonderisms...Put The Pedal To The Medal (or Ice) Good Buddy

Today I have two questions for Wednesday Wonderisms:

1.  Why is it so easy to get sucked into marathon episodes of television shows that you never watch or would never think to watch?  This past Saturday morning, I awoke to find my hubby watching Ice Road Truckers on television.  While I had heard of this show, I had never actually watched it before.  So, I sat down and snuggled a bit with the old man and within minutes, became entranced.  Before I knew it, I had watched like three back to back episodes in a kind of hypnotic trance.  I don't want to offend any over the road - or ice - truckers out there, but I really have no interest in what they do or where they drive.  I know, I know, that sounds kind of mean, but really, do they need their own show? I don't know how this happens...IRT is not the only show that has "gotten" me.  Once, I watched like 7 or 8 back to back episodes of show about running a hair salon, not to mention the Top Chef marathon I watched last year!  Are there subliminal messages hidden in these shows keeping you tuned in?  (BTW, I don't run a hair shop nor am I a top chef). 

2.  Why is it always the worst, most annoying song that gets stuck in your head all day?  My drive to work takes about 25 minutes.  I can hear several different songs on the radio during my trip.  Yes, I'm guilty of constantly changing the radio station instead of leaving it in one spot.  Anyway, even if I hear 10 songs, most of which I would be singing along to, it is always that terrible song, that I couldn't get changed quick enough, that is stuck in my head ALL DAY!  Mmm Bop.

Wednesday Wonderisms...Good Grief, Charlie Brown

Is it Wednesday already?  It is.  It is also definately the beginning of the Mad Season.  By that I mean crazy busy with shopping, baking, more shopping, eating, more baking, fighting crowds, lines, stepping on those little hooks you use to hang the tree ornaments, aggressively searching for the best parking spaces, more eating, spending more money, and oh yeah, birthdays, holidays, and family fun!

My Wednesday Wonderisms are totally random this week:

1.  Why do the grown-ups on Charlie Brown talk the way they do?  Why aren't they understandable?  Has this issue ever been addressed on the show?  I mean has is ever been explained?

2.  Who decided it was okay to wear these shoes?  I'm not even sure these should be called, shoes...

3. How do gnats just appear in your house?  From nothing, I mean.  It is literally 25 degrees outside and poof there are 8,000 of them hovering around the one brown banana in the fruit bowl.  Where do they come from?

I survived the craft fair while hosting my daughter's 6th birthday party, and I managed to sell a few bags and fabric flowers at the same time.  I also got a few custom orders.  I also got to meet some really cool fellow "vendors."  Most everyone did alright, but I didn't hear anyone say they could quit their day job anytime soon, including me.  I shared my space with my friend, Joanna.  Or rather, Joanna shared her space with me.  She made (and sold) awesome wreathes and other floral arrangements.  She, too received custom orders for fresh floral arrangements, which is really her passion.  Here is a photo of a super small portion of her work.

Honestly, I'm glad the fair is over.  I basically just wanted some feedback about my work from folks who don't know me.   I got that, so I am happy.

I've joined another ATC Swap.  This one is hosted by Patti at Treasure Barn.  My partner this month is Dee Dee from Dee Dee's Craft Spot.  I'm mailing my ATC off to her this afternoon, so look for it on her blog soon.  I will, of course, be posting the card she sends me.  I can't wait!

Wednesday Wonderisms...Bodily Functions. Oh, And My ATC

First off, let me say "thanks" to all who have sent words of encouragement my way regarding my current struggle with the salt addiction.  I'm taking one day at a time but I'm not counting yesterday.  I slipped, or rather jumped, off the wagon and bought a package of chips from a vending machine at work.  These were not regular potato chips mind you, these were TGIF Friday's Bacon and Cheddar chips.  I polished off the bag in probably under a minute.  I won't admit licking the inside the bag before hiding the evidence in my cube neighbor's bin.  Today is a new day, however, and I am positive I won't be buying any more vending machine chips.  Okay, that said, let's get to today's Wednesday Wonderisms!  Today I'm wondering:

Disclaimer:  If you are offended by bathroom talk, look away NOW, but please return.

1.  Most women know what it means to have to cross your legs upon sneezing, laughing, and coughing.  You know what I mean.  But why now does it seem like the closer I get to the bathroom the worse I have to go?  Even when I get to the toilet, I'm doing the potty dance just trying to get my pants unbuttoned.  I typically start my walk to the restroom long before I feel the need to go just to avoid feeling rushed as soon as I get into the room.  Is there something about bathrooms that trigger brains or bladders telling them you have to go RIGHT NOW?  Curses if there is someone in the restroom running water when I enter!  Is this one of those aging things again? 

2.  What has America come to when there are commercials on television advertising vitamin supplements to help regulate bowel movements?  Sure there have been diarrhea and hemorrhoid medication adverts forever, not mention Jamie Lee Curtis' yogurt (wink wink), but I heard a commercial just the other day in which the non-attorney spokesman actually said the words:  bowel movement.  I can honestly say that in my 40 years of life, I have never heard this said on a commercial. 

3.  Absolutely nothing to do with bodily functions.  What is the difference between retro and vintage?  Is vintage the same thing, only cooler?  Trendier maybe?  I wonder.

Next, I want to show you the ATC I made for the Blissful ATC Swap.  I haven't heard from my November swap partner, so I guess that means I get to keep my card!  Sidenote:  If you sign up for a swap or challenge or participatory event, follow through.  It's just the nice and right thing to do.  Anyway, here is my card:

November's theme was "open" or anything you like, so I chose a theater idea.  I named my card, The Show Must Go On.  I hand colored the black and white printing of the man and two showgirls.  I decorated the ladies with some bling and then adhered the print to a piece of sheet music I had ModPodged to glittery scrapbook paper.  I placed a "curtain" at the top and a bit of a scroll at the bottom.  I then stuck an old ticket stub on top of everything.  I really like using the old photos and either coloring on them by hand, like I did here with colored pencils, or doing it digitally, like I did with the photos in my blog header.   

I'm still working hard on my items for the craft fair coming up this Saturday.  I've made some smaller zippy bags and will post some photos of those before the fair, so stay tuned!

Wednesday Wonderisms..It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas? Really?

Hi, my name is Angela and I am addicted to salt.  It has been five days since my last real taste of this most beloved condiment.  I'm doing okay, so far.  I don't believe my family is planning an intervention, but most addicts probably don't believe their families are conniving behind their backs.  Oh wait, yes they do.  Anyway, this salt free lifestyle I have begun leads me to my first Wednesday Wonderism:

1.  If we, as a people, can send a man to the moon, why on earth can't we invent a real salt substitute that actually tastes like salt?  The world is full of ultra smart scientists that build rocket ships, so why then must we turn to Mrs. Dash to fulfill that saline need?  Mrs. Dash, I'm sorry.  I do not like you; you are not worthy...you don't even look like salt. 

While we are on the subject of rocket scientists, why can't they come up with a cigarette that won't kill you?  Just asking.

2.  When you say you want more air conditioning, or cooler air, in your house, do you say, "turn up the A/C" or "turn down the A/C?"

3.  Why must we start celebrating Christmas at the first of November?  Last year one local radio station began playing Christmas music in October!  Don't get me wrong, I love Christmas and despite what my husband says, I am not Mrs. Scrooge, but I think beginning the season so early takes away from the "specialness" of Christmas, not to mention that the Thanksgiving holiday gets a bit of a shaft.   The bottom line is this:  If I am hearing "It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas" and "Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer" on the radio on November 1st, by December 24th, I'm "Christmased" out...and may exhibit Scrooge-like characteristics!  Ba Humbug!

Wednesday Wonderisms..And Then There Was....Music

It's Wednesday and that means it is time for Wednesday Wonderisms! Today's wonders revolve around music.  I wonder:

1.  What will the current, Top 40, music be called in 30 years?  I mean we all know what Classic Rock is...Led Zeppelin and The Eagles will always be Classic Rock, so what will we call today's music when it (and we) are 30 years older? 

2.  Why is easy listening music, or "relaxation" music (ocean sounds, rain sounds, etc), actually not at all easy to listen to or relaxing?  I have tried, on numerous occasions, to relax by this music, but I am sure my blood pressure has actually risen during these relaxation attempts.

3.  Justin Beiber.  Really?  I have no idea why he is a big deal.

Wednesday Wonderisms..How Do You Do That?

Happy blustery Wednesday.  I meant to post my Wonderisms earlier, but I've been stuck at work and I have yet to figure out how to "auto" post.  I mean, I know that if I write my post and save it as a draft, I can actually auto post it at whatever time I choose...right?  Anyone that can help a sister out...give me a shout!  Okay, let's get to it.  Today I am wondering:

1.  How did I survive my childhood?  I mean, really.  When you think back to your childhood and teen years, do you wonder how you rode in your mom's car, and survived, without wearing a seatbelt?  Now, you wouldn't drive or ride one block without it on would you?  You wouldn't go a block without your cell phone either, right?  How did we survive without cell phones?

When I think back to the things I did and experienced as a child, teen, and young adult, I wonder how on earth I survived.  I also wonder how my mom never went crazy with worry. 

2.  Let me preface my second wonderism with this:  I will not use my blog as any sort of political platform.  That said, I am not inclined to believe in climate change or global warming..or whatever the current verbiage is.  But, the truth is, inconvenient or otherwise,  the weather is just COLD...and weird the last few days!  I don't really think this means anything, but I wonder why there are tornadoes in Ohio, Indiana, and Kentucky, while it is snowing in Minnesota and where I am it is just plain cold and windy!  I guess the real question..or wonder is...why don't I live in the land of perfect weather..otherwise known as San Diego?

Wednesday Wonderisms

Happy Wednesday!  Gosh, it is really almost the weekend again (for me, anyway)!  First, here are some of my Wondersims for today.  I Wonder:

1.  Why are gray hairs a different texture than my normal hair?  My hair is pretty dark brown, it is also really thick (almost Chia Pet like at the moment; I need a haircut).  I'm starting to notice a few making their wild and wirery appearance...NOT HAPPY.

2.  After all these years, I wonder if Jenny has the same number:  867-5309?  Hmm.

3.  What was God was thinking about when he made this:

He sure went to town though, didn't He?  Isn't is awesome?

I am so excited to show you some of the great stuff I came across this past weekend.  My husband and I spent Friday in a nearby college town and we both struck gold in one way or another.  He found gold in the form of books and I found my little slice of heaven in two of my absolute favorite stores.  First, in my fave fabric store, I found this Alexander Henry fabric:

Aren't the owls adorable?  I purchased the dotted fabric as well.  My plan is to make a bag for my laptop with this...I can't wait to get started!  My next heavenly find was in another favorite store that carries all things English, including my favorite chocolate bar:

Of course, this little bar of yumminess costs about triple what they cost in England, but it is sooo worth it.  Trust me.

As for flea market stuff, I found an awesome desk/worktable at a Goodwill Store.  It was half price and only cost me $10.00!  Unfortunately, I can't show you a picture right now as it is still inside my SUV!  I believe it is real wood and is just perfect for my studio.  I want to sand it a bit and clean it up before using it.  Heck, I might even paint it.  I will keep you posted and will definitely show pictures of how it turns out!  Here are my other flea market finds from the weekend:

I also want to state that, after visiting this local college town, I have concluded that if you live in this town or work here, say at the university, you can pretty much wear anything you'd like...even if you are over the age of 50!  Not judgin...just sayin.
