<div style="text-align: justify;">
Wow. Has it really been nearly six months since I wrote a blog post?! Yes, it has been that long! I have no good excuses...just life. I've been a busy lady of late. Besides working my <i>real </i>job, I've been busy creating a few quilts, too. I also made the cute little Dresdan Plate in the photo above. I'm playing around with <a href="http://michael%20miller%27s%20petal%20pinwheels/">Petal Pinwheels </a> fabric in order to compete in <a href="http://www.michaelmillerfabrics.com/">Michael Miller's 2014 Fabric Challenge </a>hosted by <a href="https://www.themodernquiltguild.com/">The Modern Quilt Guild</a>. It's funny. My last post (yeah, the one in November) dealt with another Fabric Challenge. That one was also hosted by The Modern Quilt Guild, but the fabric was from <a href="http://www.rileyblakedesigns.com/">Riley Blake.</a> Unfortunately, I didn't win that challenge, but I did get a lot of great feedback from the other participants. I'm not confident I will win this Challenge either, but it's fun participating and I love just seeing all the creative projects everyone comes up with!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Gosh, I feel like I've grown leaps and bounds about quilts and quilting in the last several months. Honestly, I don't think I would have attempted sewing a Dresdan Plate six months ago. I just thought it was too hard! I've learned so much just by doing. I've also done a lot of reading as well as watching online tutorials. I bet you have heard of <a href="https://www.missouriquiltco.com/">Jenny Doan from the Missouri Star Quilt Company</a>! I'm pretty sure I've watched every <a href="https://www.youtube.com/user/MissouriQuiltCo">You Tube</a> video she's made! A few months ago I even got to meet her in person! My local quilt shop hosted a trunk show she presented. It was neat getting to see some of the quilts she's made online in person. They are very nice and she is too! </div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
At the beginning of April, <a href="http://kcmodernquiltguild.blogspot.com/">Kansas City Modern Quilt Guild</a> held a Showcase at the Kansas City Star Pavillion. I entered two quilts. The first was my very first "modern" quilt and the second was this one:</div>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="font-size: 13px;">Candy Dishes Quilt</td></tr>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
Here are a few of the other quilts I've finished in the last couple of months. Excuse the terrible photography. I'm currently working on getting a better camera. </div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
It feels great writing this post. I've missed this so much. I pledge to get back online and share more of my recent projects and thoughts on this quilt journey I've been on this past year. I hope you hang in here with me. Thanks. Talk to you again soon!<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Wow. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I can't believe how much time has passed since I last posted! I've been so busy with work, school starting up again, and of course, sewing and quilting! I've finished the <a href="http://www.sewloquacious.blogspot.com/2013/02/sea-breezes.html" target="_blank">Breezes</a> pinwheel quilt and just got it back from the superb (and kind of famous) long-arm quilter, <a href="http://tiacurtisquilts.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Tia Curtis</a>! This is my first quilt that I haven't quilted myself. It's also the most complex and intricate quilt I've made, so I wanted to make sure the quilting was perfect, so I sent it to Tia! I will post pictures of the quilt soon....I need to bind it yet.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I met Tia through the <a href="http://kcmodernquiltguild.webs.com/" target="_blank">KC Modern Quilt Guild</a>. I've been a member of the guild for the past several months and I've really enjoyed it even though I haven't been able to participate in any of the retreats or sew ins offered. That is soon to change, however! My work schedule is changing and I will soon have Saturdays off which is when most of the sewing events are planned. That all said, I was able to sign up for a <a href="http://themodernquiltguild.wordpress.com/2013/08/16/the-basics-challenge-with-riley-blake-designs/" target="_blank">fabric challenge sponsored by Riley Blake and the Modern Quilt Guild.</a> Each participant was given six fat eighths from their Basics category and told to create anything quilted! I decided to make a poncho for my littlest daughter, Charlotte. Drumroll please.....</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-z7OBIG8HdyA/UomOGspCc3I/AAAAAAAAJPs/-otixqUTFWg/s1600/Poncho+1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-z7OBIG8HdyA/UomOGspCc3I/AAAAAAAAJPs/-otixqUTFWg/s400/Poncho+1.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-YFBO42FM9wE/UomOHuU-G6I/AAAAAAAAJP0/522Eque5i-I/s1600/Poncho+5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-YFBO42FM9wE/UomOHuU-G6I/AAAAAAAAJP0/522Eque5i-I/s400/Poncho+5.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I created the poncho using the <a href="http://themodernquiltguild.wordpress.com/2013/08/16/the-basics-challenge-with-riley-blake-designs/" target="_blank">slice and insert technique</a> I learned in the <a href="http://www.craftsy.com/project/course/improvisational-piecing-modern-design" target="_blank">Improvisational Piecing Craftsy course</a> I took a few months ago. I experimented with different quilting styles after it was pieced. I think it turned out pretty cute and Charlotte is super excited to model the poncho next month at the guild meeting!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Besides binding my pinwheel quilt, I have a lot of projects in the works...mostly Christmas gifts and I've promised to actually make a tree skirt for our Christmas tree this year. What are you all working on? </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

Please hope over to my new blog, <a href="http://www.freestatequiltstudio.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Free State Quilt Studio</a>, where I have just posted this:<br />
<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Sa8fXxBYAZg/UgA51jJa6XI/AAAAAAAAHrY/8jDuSsQz_kc/s1600/Iowa.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="225" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Sa8fXxBYAZg/UgA51jJa6XI/AAAAAAAAHrY/8jDuSsQz_kc/s400/Iowa.jpg" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="font-size: 13px;">Iowa is full of "fields of opportunities"</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Well, I'm back from my trip to Iowa. It was a great, albeit short, mini vacation. I attended my sister's graduation from nursing school. The ceremony was nice and her speech (she was selected as the student speaker) was very inspirational. It was also funny. She used humor in her speech as she was probably the oldest of the graduates!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-xchWbwteQco/UgA6xpS2uyI/AAAAAAAAHrk/H6ngdB1hDic/s1600/Graduation+2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-xchWbwteQco/UgA6xpS2uyI/AAAAAAAAHrk/H6ngdB1hDic/s400/Graduation+2.jpg" width="225" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Nursing will be my sister's <i>third</i> career. About ten years ago, she got her Master's in education and has been teaching English to middle school kids since. Now, she's a nurse! I'm thinking she is actually a career <i>student! </i></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<i><br /></i></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/--O2ko7Antxs/UgA78x7gsQI/AAAAAAAAHr0/yWIpcOHBUgU/s1600/Sisters.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/--O2ko7Antxs/UgA78x7gsQI/AAAAAAAAHr0/yWIpcOHBUgU/s320/Sisters.jpg" width="228" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
We look like complete opposites; she is blonde and blue and I'm brown and brown. She'd be mortified if I told you she is older than me...but, she <i>is</i> 10 months older! Seriously, I'm super proud of her and I know she's going to be a great nurse! </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
She loved the <a href="http://www.freestatequiltstudio.blogspot.com/2013/07/a-night-at-fair.html">quilted wall hanging</a> I gave her except she thought the back was the front. I assured her she could hang it either way she wanted. She really loved that it matched the quilt I gave her for her ahem <i>39th </i>birthday... </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
One last tidbit...I'm super excited about the vintage quilt I found a few weeks ago at <a href="http://goodjujukc.com/">Good JuJu KC.</a> I think the pattern is called, Around the World. It is so awesome. It was hand quilted! I've put on my daughter's bed just for the photo. I'm actually working on the <a href="http://www.sewloquacious.blogspot.com/2013/02/sea-breezes.html">Breezes </a>quilt I started for her last February....this will the subject of a future post! </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
Have a great week everyone! Chat with you again soon!</div>

Here is a copy of my latest post at <a href="http://www.freestatequiltstudio.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Free State Quilt Studio</a>:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-C3jgswDHqvc/UfCBffUF3EI/AAAAAAAAHGo/x1UzMKU_m-8/s1600/1908-RPPC-Nebraska-County-Fair-EXAGGERATED-SIZE-CORN.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="250" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-C3jgswDHqvc/UfCBffUF3EI/AAAAAAAAHGo/x1UzMKU_m-8/s400/1908-RPPC-Nebraska-County-Fair-EXAGGERATED-SIZE-CORN.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
...just wanted to share a few pictures of my recent evening at our local county fair. I entered my <a href="http://www.freestatequiltstudio.blogspot.com/2013/06/balancing-acts.html">Do Over Quilt</a> in the "Wall Hanging" quilt class and I won a red ribbon! That means my little quilt placed second in this category! </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-BYledMDmSjQ/UfCCjWbnbyI/AAAAAAAAHG4/dCOoOJcyryY/s1600/Red+Ribbon.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-BYledMDmSjQ/UfCCjWbnbyI/AAAAAAAAHG4/dCOoOJcyryY/s400/Red+Ribbon.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
It was fun looking at all the quilts as well as the other exhibits. It was even fun looking and learning about different farm animals! Who knew so many different kinds of chickens existed? My daughter, Charlotte, especially liked getting to feed cookies to this little gal, also named, Charlotte:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-NHEJZlkWggo/UfCEBySKjHI/AAAAAAAAHHI/xjo1ACfxVB4/s1600/Charlotte+and+Charlotte.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-NHEJZlkWggo/UfCEBySKjHI/AAAAAAAAHHI/xjo1ACfxVB4/s400/Charlotte+and+Charlotte.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
We also had fun looking through the NASA exhibit. We even got to touch a "moon rock!" Guess who now wants to be an astronaut?<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-bt5G0qtCE68/UfCE4_Q8RiI/AAAAAAAAHHU/SKAtu4G90Hs/s1600/NASA.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-bt5G0qtCE68/UfCE4_Q8RiI/AAAAAAAAHHU/SKAtu4G90Hs/s400/NASA.jpg" width="225" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Did I mention the plentiful fair food? Yes, I had to go there...carrot cake funnel cake with cream cheese icing AND powdered sugar!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-XKsZDdQOXos/UfCFuDf_YSI/AAAAAAAAHHg/s5JGuJ_2RNg/s1600/Funnel+Cake.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="265" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-XKsZDdQOXos/UfCFuDf_YSI/AAAAAAAAHHg/s5JGuJ_2RNg/s400/Funnel+Cake.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
We had a great time at the fair. It really brought back memories of when I was a kid growing up in Northern Iowa. I was a 4H kid and I can remember entering blueberry bars at the fair, doing a place setting (they still do that by the way), and even showing my miniature schnauzer. It's neat that even in the city, there is still a small corner of "ruralness" that still gets to shine via the fair every year!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Speaking of Iowa, I am going to be heading there soon to celebrate with my sister. She is graduating from nursing school! I made her a quilted wall hanging to match the <a href="http://sewloquacious.blogspot.com/2012/05/birthday-quilt.html">Birthday Quilt</a> I made for her last year. I hope she likes it...</div>

I made the heart using the Stitch and Flip method I learned from Jacquie Gering's <a href="http://www.craftsy.com/project/course/improvisational-piecing-modern-design">Improvisational Piecing-Modern Design Craftsy Course</a>. I used scraps of the same fabric I used for the Birthday Quilt. I used larger pieces for the back:</div>

In my last post I wrote about my daughter's early complaints of summer boredom. She has had to eat those words. Since this last post, she's performed at an end of season gymnastics exhibition, spent a week at a Parks and Rec camp, and spent five days (and nights) in the Mark Twain National Forest camping and canoeing! I'm pretty sure she has had a blast with all these activities, even tipping the canoe in the cold, clear waters of the North Fork River! I must say, I enjoyed camping and canoeing, too...even though I had no cell phone service, no access to the internet, and had to drive to the "restroom" and "showers." Anyone who knows me, knows I'm not much of an "outside" kind of person! And, by the way, camping is A LOT of work! That said, I did have fun, but I'm glad to be home and I'm anxious to get back into my sewing room in order to finish up the last few of my <a href="http://www.craftsy.com/project/course/improvisational-piecing-modern-design">Improvisational Piecing </a> <a href="http://www.craftsy.com/">Craftsy</a> course. I've had such an awesome time working on these projects. I finished my <a href="http://www.freestatequiltstudio.blogspot.com/2013/05/summer-start.html">Do Over Quilt</a> the night before we left for our camping trip. I'm super happy with the results:</div>

I decided to use a decorative stitch for the quilting. I would have never even thought about trying that had it not been for the course instructor, Jacquie Gering. I love the result! I'm excited to bring this little quilt to the next <a href="http://kcmodernquiltguild.webs.com/">Kansas City Modern Quilt Guild </a>. Oh, did I mention I joined this Guild? Well, I finally did it! I went to my first meeting in May and joined a few days later. I'm thrilled to be a part of the Guild and I can't wait to get involved! </div>

The following is my latest post at my new blog, <a href="http://www.freestatequiltstudio.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Free State Quilt Studio</a>:<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-THha3nWSqFk/UaUgbGE_EYI/AAAAAAAAFow/5-o4pNry9XQ/s1600/Peony.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-THha3nWSqFk/UaUgbGE_EYI/AAAAAAAAFow/5-o4pNry9XQ/s400/Peony.jpg" width="225" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
So, it's day three of summer vacation and my kid is already B-O-R-E-D! Sad huh? I wish I had 100 days off for the summer! I'd love to be <i>bored </i>for a few days! I bet you'd love just a few boring days, too! </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Call me boring, but since my last posting, I've finished up a couple sewing projects and started a few more. First, I finished my <a href="http://freestatequiltstudio.blogspot.com/2013/05/one-quilt-done-one-in-progress.html">Love Knots</a> quilt. I haven't quilted yet, however. I'm not sure I will, actually. I'm not that happy with it.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-rYS6Ga3m7n0/UaUkZAuUgFI/AAAAAAAAFpA/8ihbM80ozXI/s1600/IMAG0910_1_2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-rYS6Ga3m7n0/UaUkZAuUgFI/AAAAAAAAFpA/8ihbM80ozXI/s320/IMAG0910_1_2.jpg" width="235" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Don't get me wrong...I love the <i>concept</i> of this quilt top. I'm not sure I <i>executed</i> it that nicely, however. I will definitely try again, but this time I will make sure the fabric triangles I use to flip and stitch are bigger. That way, I think the end shapes will be more distinct. Have a look at some of the quilts my <a href="http://www.craftsy.com/project/course/improvisational-piecing-modern-design">Craftsy classmates</a>' quilts completed for the Stitch and Flip class.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I skipped ahead in the class and finished another quilt using Jacqie Gering's <a href="http://www.craftsy.com/class/improvisational-piecing-modern-design/198">Slice and Insert Technique.</a> I actually signed up the the Craftsy Course because of Gering's <a href="http://www.craftsy.com/instructors/jacquie-gering">Crosscut Quilt.</a> This is one of my all time favorite quilts ever!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-M4vdTi-e25k/UaUnBBzAOcI/AAAAAAAAFpQ/CWvjh2x-JTs/s1600/full_4824_104654_Crosscut_1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-M4vdTi-e25k/UaUnBBzAOcI/AAAAAAAAFpQ/CWvjh2x-JTs/s320/full_4824_104654_Crosscut_1.jpg" width="239" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Isn't is AWESOME?! I love the colors, the architecture of it, and the quilting is amazing! Now, here is my version:</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-oPX_WWkTEm4/UaUnXBZgdQI/AAAAAAAAFpY/NSJduk_yFd8/s1600/Brady+Bunch+Top.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="272" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-oPX_WWkTEm4/UaUnXBZgdQI/AAAAAAAAFpY/NSJduk_yFd8/s320/Brady+Bunch+Top.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Not so awesome, but, still, I <i>liked</i> it. I used browns, rust, and mustard yellow. These colors, as well as the architectural lines, remind me of the Brady house in The Brady Bunch. I liked this quilt...until I quilted it.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-nP8YkY7ZVc4/UaUo5jhxhDI/AAAAAAAAFpo/9Nsr9I2NFkc/s1600/Brady+Bunch+Cross+Cut.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-nP8YkY7ZVc4/UaUo5jhxhDI/AAAAAAAAFpo/9Nsr9I2NFkc/s320/Brady+Bunch+Cross+Cut.jpg" width="180" /></a>YUK. Not happy.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
So, ever heard of a mulligan? It's a "do over" if you flub up a golf stroke. Here is my Do Over Quilt (top):</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-6dYeWxStpOg/UaUs6CMa8uI/AAAAAAAAFqA/cNhTSpIcTa4/s1600/Do+Over.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="285" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-6dYeWxStpOg/UaUs6CMa8uI/AAAAAAAAFqA/cNhTSpIcTa4/s320/Do+Over.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I used leftover batiks from my <a href="http://www.sewloquacious.blogspot.com/2012/07/ocean-waves-quilt-done.html">Ocean Waves</a> quilt. I also scaled back this top. Each block is half the size of the original. I also put a little rectangle in the top corner. Fingers crossed I don't mess up on the quilting! </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
So, I've messed up on a few things, but I've learned a lot, too! I'm having a great time learning these new techniques and I feel like a have a few more weapons in my creative quilt arsenal now. There are two more quilts to do for the class: To The Point and Swirling Stars. I can't wait to get started! I've also learned that my sewing machine has one of the automatic thread cutter thingies on it! I've been using my machine since 2007 and never knew it before this past weekend! </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I hope you all are enjoying your summer so far! It's just the beginning!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Until next time!</div>

Just a reminder that I've started a new blog called, <a href="http://www.freestatequiltstudio.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Free State Quilt Studio</a>. I sure hope you will jump over and join me there. For now, I'm re-posting my latest post here at Sew Loquacious:<br />
<br />
One Quilt Done; One in Progress<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Ark2OlhrYVI/UZexFgnJP7I/AAAAAAAAFaA/MjFGtSROVNY/s1600/photo.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Ark2OlhrYVI/UZexFgnJP7I/AAAAAAAAFaA/MjFGtSROVNY/s400/photo.JPG" width="300" /></a></div>
<br />
Just a quick post to show my finished <a href="http://www.freestatequiltstudio.blogspot.com/2013/05/strings-attached.html">Strings Attached</a> quilt. I decided to free motion meandering quilting on the solid parts of the quilt and I did straight line quilting along the "strings."<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-n3EdAt4ZDY8/UZexzDZkHQI/AAAAAAAAFaI/MUKTRQYUyL4/s1600/photo+(3).JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-n3EdAt4ZDY8/UZexzDZkHQI/AAAAAAAAFaI/MUKTRQYUyL4/s400/photo+(3).JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I attached purchased binding my machine. It was pretty easy and quick! I like that! I'm giving this quilt to my aunt this weekend for a Mother's Day present. I hope she likes it!<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Here is a quick look at my current <a href="http://www.craftsy.com/">Craftsy</a> project for <a href="http://www.craftsy.com/class/improvisational-piecing-modern-design/198">Improvisational Piecing, Modern Design</a>. It's called, Love Knots. I've used deconstructed neckties for the top knot (for my hubby) and some of my favorite fabrics for the bottom knot (for me). I can't wait to get this finished! It's been a lot of fun and I'm excited to move on to the next lesson! </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Have you heard about the Snowmageddon that hit the Midwest? Well, the big city (KC), has been hit twice in the last week. Heavy snow is actually pretty rare here, but to be hit twice, with soooo much snow is really unusual. Today is the fourth snowday! I'm feeling a little cabin feverish, although I have been able to work on a few handy projects. First, I finished a crocheted scarf I started a few weeks ago.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-WF37BkzE6-A/US5nr_JGDGI/AAAAAAAADjo/BAVXGO_Dr1M/s1600/Scarf2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-WF37BkzE6-A/US5nr_JGDGI/AAAAAAAADjo/BAVXGO_Dr1M/s400/Scarf2.jpg" width="202" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-td-vlgM0vzE/US5ngb4RaHI/AAAAAAAADjI/zIZv5BpW7Pw/s1600/Scarf.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-td-vlgM0vzE/US5ngb4RaHI/AAAAAAAADjI/zIZv5BpW7Pw/s400/Scarf.jpg" width="225" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Notice my dress form? I got her for Christmas. I named her, Maude! The scarf is basically just like the <a href="http://www.sewloquacious.blogspot.com/2013/02/sea-breezes.html" target="_blank">Sea Pennies</a> throw I made. It's just double crochet throughout. I used half double crochet for the washcloth I made to match the <a href="http://www.sewloquacious.blogspot.com/2013/02/sea-breezes.html" target="_blank">Breezes Pinwheel Quilt</a> I'm working on. The trim around the edge is double crocheted. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-fLxJ3j-pQtQ/US5o9a7NghI/AAAAAAAADj0/Ui0gpDorVlY/s1600/Cloth.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-fLxJ3j-pQtQ/US5o9a7NghI/AAAAAAAADj0/Ui0gpDorVlY/s400/Cloth.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
It's a bit lopsided, but hey, it's a washcloth! I really like crocheting with kitchen cotton. I think it's easier than the fluffier stuff, like the organic cotton I used for the headband I made. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-2nEINpCkcr0/US5qulkWYLI/AAAAAAAADkA/vjqrclXi5CA/s1600/Crochet+Headband.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-2nEINpCkcr0/US5qulkWYLI/AAAAAAAADkA/vjqrclXi5CA/s400/Crochet+Headband.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I found the <a href="http://allaboutami.tumblr.com/post/18110601640/knottedheadband" target="_blank">Knotted Headband Tutorial</a> on <a href="http://pinterest.com/sewloquacious/knit-and-crochet/" target="_blank">Pinterest</a>. It was pretty easy to follow for the beginner crocheter like me!<br />
<br />
So, besides crafting, what else is there to do during a snowday? How about a SNOWBALL FIGHT?!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Bvc7qy1--yI/US5sSfTKbkI/AAAAAAAADkk/0RmJrZ_1pt8/s1600/snowball+fight+1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="313" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Bvc7qy1--yI/US5sSfTKbkI/AAAAAAAADkk/0RmJrZ_1pt8/s400/snowball+fight+1.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Stay warm everyone!<br />

<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
If you were to look at my <a href="http://pinterest.com/sewloquacious/" target="_blank">Pinterest</a> boards, you would notice a few things about me...I love bird art, ridiculously decadent dessert recipes, and that I'm <i>still</i> redecorating my bedroom. I finished my <a href="http://www.sewloquacious.blogspot.com/2012/07/ocean-waves-quilt-done.html" target="_blank">Ocean Waves Quilt</a> in July and I still haven't been able to hang it in my "new" room! It's been taking a lot longer to redo, but it's going to look awesome when it's finished! I have finished another ocean themed project for my room....my first crocheted afghan! </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-gIi5pzLbrJk/USKVXxL5BuI/AAAAAAAADVg/OuE07ipAWvo/s1600/Afghan.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-gIi5pzLbrJk/USKVXxL5BuI/AAAAAAAADVg/OuE07ipAWvo/s400/Afghan.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-37xL0DjpHxo/USKVY-7ZWlI/AAAAAAAADVo/SlRKDZpVvbw/s1600/Afghan+Closeup.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-37xL0DjpHxo/USKVY-7ZWlI/AAAAAAAADVo/SlRKDZpVvbw/s400/Afghan+Closeup.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
How is an afghan beachy? Well, it's turquoise and I sewed crocheted "sea pennies" onto the front! It's a pretty simple blanket; I'm just a newbie at crochet! I double crocheted the whole thing. My plan is to use the afghan as a bed runner, atop a white comforter. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-sPDtC3YmzGo/USKXns46SJI/AAAAAAAADVw/Z5B8hqZmZk4/s1600/Breezes+Pattern.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-sPDtC3YmzGo/USKXns46SJI/AAAAAAAADVw/Z5B8hqZmZk4/s400/Breezes+Pattern.JPG" width="336" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I've got beach on the brain! I finally started working on Charlotte's quilt. I am using a pattern I bought last summer in Minnesota. It's called, <i>Breezes</i>. Sharon Huse, the owner of the <a href="http://www.oldalleyquiltshop.com/" target="_blank">Old Alley Quilt Shop</a>, told me the inspiration for this pattern was all the huge windmills in the area. If you look closely at the quilt on the cover, you'll notice large and small pinwheels. I'm using beach themed fabrics I bought online. Aren't the flip flops adorable?! </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-CJ819A1dzp8/USKY-RSyMGI/AAAAAAAADV4/rLdekT7xhgg/s1600/Cutting.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-CJ819A1dzp8/USKY-RSyMGI/AAAAAAAADV4/rLdekT7xhgg/s400/Cutting.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
A lot of cutting later....</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-o3K2m4RmxnU/USKZmJg7B7I/AAAAAAAADWA/m0_wzLUWZwo/s1600/Square.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-o3K2m4RmxnU/USKZmJg7B7I/AAAAAAAADWA/m0_wzLUWZwo/s400/Square.jpg" width="396" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-IyN-fWSwQLA/USKZuhlFRJI/AAAAAAAADWI/JVe4Pg7sZ_U/s1600/Block+1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-IyN-fWSwQLA/USKZuhlFRJI/AAAAAAAADWI/JVe4Pg7sZ_U/s400/Block+1.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Finally, one finished block:</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-3G_XLiTkW6g/USKacOeuB9I/AAAAAAAADWQ/NUfbc8JGu2o/s1600/Sewn+Block.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="370" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-3G_XLiTkW6g/USKacOeuB9I/AAAAAAAADWQ/NUfbc8JGu2o/s400/Sewn+Block.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I love pinwheels and the beach! How cool is it to mix the two?! I can't wait until it's finished!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Bye for now!</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Hi. My name is Angela and I am a horrible blogger. It's been nearly four months since my last post. It's been about that long since I commented on others'. I'm so sorry. Just know the guilt I feel is punishment enough. I have no excuses for my absence. I guess the holidays...and life (mostly work) got in the way. I even let my <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/SewLoquacious?utm_source=CraftCult&utm_medium=api&utm_campaign=api" target="_blank">Etsy</a> listings expire! No worries; my listings are back and so am I!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
So, what have I been up to (besides work)? Here's a look at a few of the projects I have been working on the past few months:</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

</tbody></table>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I've also been trying to teach myself to crochet. I'm working on an afghan. Here is a little circle I learned the other night:</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-m4KadPHAedA/UQxtRtlq2tI/AAAAAAAADBM/epNAncyPRIs/s1600/Crochet+Circle.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-m4KadPHAedA/UQxtRtlq2tI/AAAAAAAADBM/epNAncyPRIs/s320/Crochet+Circle.jpg" width="302" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I think I'm <i>finally</i> getting the hang of it! Tootles for now!</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Hooray! I've finished the shirt dress <a href="http://mccallpattern.mccall.com/m4769-products-7355.php?page_id=108" target="_blank">McCall's M4769</a>! I'm so happy with how it turned out! It wasn't all sunshine and roses, however. All was going well until I reached the collar! At that point, I nearly threw in the towel! Honestly, I could not figure it out. I searched and searched until I found a tutorial for this exact sewing pattern...specifically the lapel collar, at <a href="http://pleasantviewschoolhouse.blogspot.com/2010/02/how-to-sew-lapel-collar-classic.html" target="_blank">Pleasant View Schoolhouse</a> blog. I could NOT have finished the collar without this post!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ga1FMM9iJp4/UHIAKDWZXZI/AAAAAAAACkc/N05uwhNeVDg/s1600/photo.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ga1FMM9iJp4/UHIAKDWZXZI/AAAAAAAACkc/N05uwhNeVDg/s400/photo.JPG" width="300" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The picture isn't great, but I'm having major issues with my camera/memory card/computer. I'm not sure which is the actual problem. I took the above photo with my iPad. Later, I took photos using my "real" camera when my daughter was actually wearing the dress. When I tried downloading the photos from the memory card, it wouldn't work. Now, the dress and my daughter are gone (back to her house) and I have no way to get those photos again until she visits again and wears the dress! Trust me, it does look good! I would recommend this pattern, however the collar is a bit of a bugger. If you've sewn a notched lapel collar, however, you shouldn't have a problem with this one. There are darts in the front of the bodice as well as the back, which makes the dress a lot more fitted than it appears in this picture. There are pockets in the skirt and the sleeve bands are a bit flared. When I make this pattern again, I will use contrasting fabric for the sleeve bands and maybe the skirt or the bodice since they are separate pieces that are sewn together!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ej7G1N2qYBM/UHIEa9uFB9I/AAAAAAAAClM/pA9n1_KAtw0/s1600/LittleBlackDress-JR-450.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ej7G1N2qYBM/UHIEa9uFB9I/AAAAAAAAClM/pA9n1_KAtw0/s320/LittleBlackDress-JR-450.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I've also finished my latest quilt top. I used <a href="http://www.fatquartershop.com/store/stores_app/Browse_Item_Details.asp?Shopper_id=68851071835156885&Store_id=499&page_id=23&Item_ID=73524&Parent_Ids=" target="_blank">Little Black Dress</a>. I bought a jelly roll and used strips from it as well as strips I cut from plain black fabric yardage. Again, this picture was taken with my iPad. I will post more once I sort out my computer problem.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-OFjii3NdVKM/UHIFPJaaevI/AAAAAAAAClc/MhvRRr5K6yo/s1600/Little+Black+Dress+Quilt+2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-OFjii3NdVKM/UHIFPJaaevI/AAAAAAAAClc/MhvRRr5K6yo/s400/Little+Black+Dress+Quilt+2.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I based this pattern after I saw a similar quilt in a <a href="http://www.keepsakequilting.com/default.aspx" target="_blank">Keepsake Quilting </a>catalog. I think it turned out great! Now, I just need to figure out the fabric for the back, the binding, and then get quilting it! Shh, this one is for my oldest daughter's upcoming birthday. Hope she likes it!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Tootles! </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ZTS0fx9Fvlg/UFo38sqEaJI/AAAAAAAACiM/SOlkC8Dvzh0/s1600/B5634.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ZTS0fx9Fvlg/UFo38sqEaJI/AAAAAAAACiM/SOlkC8Dvzh0/s320/B5634.jpg" width="303" /></a></div>
<br />
So, I here is what I have learned from my most recent fashion sewing project: <br />
<br />
<ol style="text-align: left;">
<li>DO NOT CUT THE PATTERN TO THE SIZE YOU THINK IT SHOULD BE!</li>
<li>EXPERIMENT ON SCRAP FABRIC WHEN MAKING BUTTON HOLES!</li>
<li>DO NOT CUT THE PATTERN TO THE SIZE YOU THINK IT SHOULD BE!</li>
<li>SEW THE GARMENT USING CHEAP FABRIC; IF IT TURNS OUT, USE YOUR FASHION FABRIC!</li>
<li>DO NOT CUT THE PATTERN TO THE SIZE YOU THINK IT SHOULD BE!</li>
</ol>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Did I mention NOT TO CUT THE PATTERN? I made this mistake when I began cutting out the pattern pieces for <a href="http://butterick.mccall.com/b5634-products-14486.php?page_id=147" target="_blank">See and Sew B5634</a>. I decided cutting the pattern to the size I <i>thought </i>would fit my oldest daughter would be easier than trying to fold the pieces along the appropriate lines. Well, it was easier, but in the end, the dress did not fit her! Too small! Fortunately, it fit my friend and she modeled it for the photos.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-sFQG00FSTNM/UFo3GQGsZVI/AAAAAAAACiE/_uzt17-YoGg/s1600/blue+dress+fron.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="243" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-sFQG00FSTNM/UFo3GQGsZVI/AAAAAAAACiE/_uzt17-YoGg/s320/blue+dress+fron.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
You can see in the photo where I violated lesson #2. The second button is clearly misaligned. Oops. What's also obvious is that I paid no heed to lesson #4. I should have made the dress using cheap fabric first! </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Usjiv1liZIE/UFo6vtrdjOI/AAAAAAAACi4/OSG6Qh_1ubc/s1600/blue+dress+close+up.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="191" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Usjiv1liZIE/UFo6vtrdjOI/AAAAAAAACi4/OSG6Qh_1ubc/s320/blue+dress+close+up.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
</div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I actually learned a lot from this project that helped me make the next dress. I had never made a collar before! It was much easier than I expected! Setting in the sleeves was a bit tricky, but I managed, and I carried this experience into the next dress project.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-au1l5IHEkBk/UFo8wKqAWwI/AAAAAAAACjA/HSIhNuUHcQ4/s1600/IMAG0748.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-au1l5IHEkBk/UFo8wKqAWwI/AAAAAAAACjA/HSIhNuUHcQ4/s320/IMAG0748.jpg" width="191" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
My daughter's favorite kinds of dresses are shirt dresses and wrap dresses. I messed up the shirt dress, but I scored with this blue wrap dress. Actually, I did not intend to use this blue fabric for the actual dress. This is cheap fabric I used to "practice" the pattern. My daughter saw the dress, tried it on, and decided she liked the fabric! Hit! She wore the dress to work! If you are interested, this wrap dress pattern is from Sew Simple. I picked it up at Walmart. Easy!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
So, with all these lessons learned, I'm now ready to attempt the shirt dress again. This time, I'm going to use <a href="http://mccallpattern.mccall.com/m4769-products-7355.php?page_id=108" target="_blank">McCall's M4769</a>. I think the fuller skirt will fit my daughter better than the See and Sew pattern. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-9SEAHZREoUk/UFo_U8rODkI/AAAAAAAACjI/9FTAQW7VpWs/s1600/M4769.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-9SEAHZREoUk/UFo_U8rODkI/AAAAAAAACjI/9FTAQW7VpWs/s320/M4769.jpg" width="303" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I'm using this retro looking fabric for this dress. I bought this at <a href="http://www.quiltsandquilts.com/" target="_blank">Quilts and Quilts</a>, my favorite quilt shop in Branson, MO.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-tZLDjfavJW0/UFo_xCV3PMI/AAAAAAAACjQ/HL-tMfxCPQY/s1600/fabric+for+dress.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="191" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-tZLDjfavJW0/UFo_xCV3PMI/AAAAAAAACjQ/HL-tMfxCPQY/s320/fabric+for+dress.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I also bought some "self-ruffling" yarn called, <a href="http://www.quiltsandquilts.com/browse.cfm/flounce-white-sand-yarn/4,4552.html" target="_blank">Flounce.</a> I had never knitted with this sort of yarn before so it was a little weird to get used to, but I managed to follow the directions and make this adorable little scarf!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-4wpMXKNPS9Y/UFpCJpB3aJI/AAAAAAAACj0/ycBLSBkSWHU/s1600/scarf.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-4wpMXKNPS9Y/UFpCJpB3aJI/AAAAAAAACj0/ycBLSBkSWHU/s320/scarf.jpg" width="191" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I'm thinking these little scarves would make great teacher gifts this year! They are very fast and the stitches are very forgiving! If anyone is interested in a quick knitting lesson, let me know! I'll post an easy tutorial!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I also bought a few Jelly Rolls at the quilt shop! I've already begun work on a quilt using one of them! I can't wait to show you! Stay tuned!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Tootles!</div>

It seems summer may actually be over. There is a definite chill in the air this morning and football season officially kicks off this afternoon! That means making a pot of chili, curling up together on the couch and watching the Chiefs <strike>lose</strike> play. I love summer, but, if I'm honest, this summer has been brutally hot and dry. Sleeping with the windows open and getting to snuggle up under the bed covers is a real relief. It's also a great relief on our air conditioner...and the a/c bill!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Don't get me wrong, this summer has been great. My family and I have taken a few great trips and gotten to spend quality time together. We've biked, golfed, gone fishing and done a lot of swimming! <br />

<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Summer being over also means "back to normal." Back to school, homework, 8:30 bedtime, and <i>routine</i>. Another definite need in my family. Personally, I'm feeling more normal, too. It has been nearly one year since my total knee replacement surgery. Time flies, huh? They said it would take a year (or so) to feel like the surgery was worth it. They were right. My knee is feeling great! I've got a lot of the flexibility back and the joint is feeling less mechanical and more like a normal knee! <br />
<br />
I'm looking forward to cooler weather now and getting back in my sewing room. I've completed a few projects in between summer activities, including sewing two dresses for my oldest daughter and a skirt for my youngest. The lessons I learned from this dressmaking will be the subject of my next post! Here is a sneak peak at a few of my latest projects.<br />
<br />

<div style="text-align: justify;">
Just a quick note to let you know that I am still alive and well. I've been so busy with my day job, one kid off to her first year at college, the other back to college to begin her third year, and second grade starting for my little one! Poor daughter, Alex, must feel left out! She graduated from college last December, so I don't have to "get her ready" for anything anymore! Well, I still take care of her...or at least I try! I'm kind of a helicopter mom if you didn't already know that! Oh, and there are three new family pets we have acquired...two fish and a Chinese Dwarf Hamster! Anyway, I have also been working on a few garment sewing projects, including two dresses and a skirt. I will upload photos as soon as I can. So, stay tuned!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
In case you are wondering, the above image is of a One Armed Paper Hanger. I remember the day I first heard this saying, "I've been busier than a one armed paper hanger!" I was 17 and had no idea what that meant. My English "mom" uttered this saying and I questioned her repeatedly as to it's meaning! Maybe it was just her accent! She still teases me about it <i>years </i>later!<br /><br />Thanks for sticking with <i>this</i> busy gal! I promise to get by your blogs ASAP!</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
Number 9 is here! That's baby number 9 for my cousin and his wife! Can you imagine? Anyway, I have been working on Number Nine's quilt for the past few weeks. And now it is finally finished just in time for the baby's arrival this morning! I made this quilt using <a href="http://www.fatquartershop.com/store/stores_app/Browse_Item_Details.asp?Shopper_id=66547181246126654&Store_id=499&page_id=23&Item_ID=74953&Parent_Ids=" target="_blank">Vintage Modern Mini Charms from Bonnie and Camille</a> as well as white and red 2 1/2" squares in order to create the <a href="http://www.sewloquacious.blogspot.com/2012/04/friendship-star-trek.html" target="_blank">Disappearing Nine Patch</a> blocks.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The finished quilt measures 36" X 52." It is squishy perfectness! Well, it's not <i>perfect</i>. Some of my squares didn't match up perfectly, but hey, it's a handmade gift made with love!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
I quilted using my free motion foot. This was only the second time I have done this, but I find it kind of relaxing. Once you get into a "groove," it's fun and easy! <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Number 9 has been the most intricate and detailed quilt I've completed thus far. It was frustrating at times, but I am proud of myself for designing the quilt and figuring out all the MATH involved in order to calculate how much fabric I needed as well as how to actually construct the blocks. Considering this is literally the NINTH quilt I've made, I think I'm doing alright!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Congratulations to Matt and Stephanie! You are great people and great parents! Best wishes to you and your family, including little Number 9!</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
I've finished another skirt using <a href="http://butterick.mccall.com/search-pages-624.php?search_term=4722&submit.x=0&submit.y=0" target="_blank">Butterick 4722</a>. My daughter picked out this cute fabric at <a href="http://www.joann.com/" target="_blank">Joann's</a> several weeks ago. It's cute, but it's directional! I didn't realize this until I was about to cut out the pattern pieces. Luckily, I noticed the direction and made adjustments to the pattern pieces. It wasn't difficult, but I had re-think how to lay out the pieces. </div>

Maybe I should say, "Diva!" I've got a few more summer sewing projects in the works for this little Diva, including a halter top! <br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
It's weird. Whenever I'm on a diet my attention seems to gravitate toward all things FOOD! The<i> badder</i> the better! I've been pinning recipes on my <a href="http://pinterest.com/sewloquacious/recipes-to-try/" target="_blank">Pinterest</a> Recipes board like crazy! I've also been digging through my recipe collection, as well as my mother's old recipe box. Not to mention watching my favorite Southern cook, <a href="http://www.pauladeen.com/" target="_blank">Paula Deen</a> on television! I've also been a little preoccupied by Christmas crafts, decorating, and baking. This all leads to the recipe I want to share today. I've made Beer Bread for the past several years at Christmastime. I make loafs for my family and I also give them as gifts. I've used a million different beers to achieve different tastes, but I've never made a sweet loaf until now. Here is my simple recipe for Streusel Topped Cinnamon Beer Bread:</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Basic Beer Bread Recipe:</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
3 cups self rising flour</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
1 can of beer (12 oz can or bottle)</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
3 tablespoons of sugar (granulated/white)</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="background-color: white;">and these ingredients to make it sweet:</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="background-color: white;">1/2 teaspoon cinnamon</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="background-color: white;">1 teaspoon vanilla</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="background-color: white;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="background-color: white;">Streusel Topping:</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="background-color: white;">1/2 cup flour (regular)</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="background-color: white;">1/4 cup brown sugar (or 2 tablespoons Splenda Brown Sugar, which makes this less gluttonous right?)</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="background-color: white;">1/2 stick of butter</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="background-color: white;">1/2 teaspoon cinnamon</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="background-color: white;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="background-color: white;">Glaze:<br />1 cup powdered sugar</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="background-color: white;">1 tablespoon milk or water</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="background-color: white;">1/2 teaspoon vanilla</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="background-color: white;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="background-color: white;">Preheat oven to 350 and spray a loaf pan with non stick spray.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="background-color: white;">Combine the beer bread ingredients and mix. It will be think and dough like. Place into loaf pan and bake for about 20 minutes. Make topping. Remove from the oven and sprinkle streusel topping crumbles over the top. Bake another 20 minutes. Make glaze. Remove from oven and drizzle with prepared glaze.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="background-color: white;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-y-70lNsnQvQ/UAbjpMQ-ugI/AAAAAAAACcg/Z_xCjBOGJD4/s1600/Cinnamon-Beer-Bread-2.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="238" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-y-70lNsnQvQ/UAbjpMQ-ugI/AAAAAAAACcg/Z_xCjBOGJD4/s400/Cinnamon-Beer-Bread-2.gif" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="background-color: white;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
This bread is very much like a coffee cake, but a lot heavier. It's also very dense. I used Bud Light when I made this loaf. Different beers will affect the flavor as well as the color of the bread. Adding melted butter to the top of the bread before adding the streusel topping will help to brown up the top. I think adding fruit, like apples or raisins, to the bread batter would be great. Also, adding streusel crumbles to the inside of the bread, like a swirl, would also taste yummy and maybe a little lighter. If you give this recipe a try, let me know. I'd love to hear your feedback!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="background-color: white;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="background-color: white;">In my last <a href="http://www.sewloquacious.blogspot.com/2012/07/where-i-create-organizedfor-now.html" target="_blank">post</a> I gave you a little sneak peak at my current quilt project. Here is an even bigger peak! Yes, those are six inch blocks I've made using the <a href="http://www.fatquartershop.com/store/stores_app/Browse_Item_Details.asp?Shopper_id=66547181246126654&Store_id=499&page_id=23&Item_ID=74953&Parent_Ids=" target="_blank">Vintage Modern Mini Charms</a> I won from <a href="http://www.fatquartershop.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Jolly Jabber</a>! I've got 34 blocks finished and 20 more to go!</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="background-color: white;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="background-color: white;">You might have noticed I changed up my blog a bit. I think it looks a little more streamlined. What do you think? I'd love to know! </span></div>

<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Guess what? I've finished cutting, sorting, and organizing my fabric scraps! Look how clean my work desk is! The only little pile on my desk is the beginnings of a new project. More on that later. First, here are my scrap bins, mostly organized by color.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-yp81XFIaW1g/UAIAl5m-xwI/AAAAAAAACZM/tTzLmbth2zk/s1600/Organization+bins.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-yp81XFIaW1g/UAIAl5m-xwI/AAAAAAAACZM/tTzLmbth2zk/s400/Organization+bins.JPG" width="266" /></a></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I've placed my quilt fabric scrap squares in the white bins on the top two shelves. I've also placed yardage on the second shelf. On the bottom shelves, I have fabric for bags, purses, and clothes. Here's a look around my studio. It's usually not this tidy!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>

I love it when it is clean and organized! By the way, all of the furniture in my studio, except the red chair, is from thrift shops. The white cabinet with the laminated top is a vintage kitchen cabinet. It even has a bread drawer!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Now, what project have I started? Here's a clue; I'm using these:</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-mcwYdCQIics/UAIEwQc43jI/AAAAAAAACaA/gCBtygkgwPw/s1600/Mini+Charm+Packs.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-mcwYdCQIics/UAIEwQc43jI/AAAAAAAACaA/gCBtygkgwPw/s400/Mini+Charm+Packs.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
These are mini charms I won from the <a href="http://www.fatquartershop.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">The Jolly Jabber</a>, the <a href="http://www.fatquartershop.com/" target="_blank">The Fat Quarter Shop's</a> blog. The charms are 2.5" and are from the Vintage Modern Collection. They are adorable! I can't wait to show you what I'm making with these!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
Hope you all are having a great weekend!</div>

Here is my finished <a href="http://www.sewloquacious.blogspot.com/2012/06/ocean-waves-quilt-top.html" target="_blank">Ocean Waves Quilt</a>! I'm in love with it! It is difficult to capture how delicate the colors are in a photograph. I used batiks from the <a href="http://www.fatquartershop.com/Ocean-Wave-Batiks-Hoffman-Fabrics.asp?sid=100516205436100&Store_id=499" target="_blank">Ocean Waves Fat Quarter Collection</a> I got from <a href="http://www.fatquartershop.com/index.asp?Store_id=499&Page_Id=15&T=1" target="_blank">Fat Quarter Shop</a>. <br />
I used a darning foot on my machine and did a meandering quilting design. I've never done this on such a large scale before. I had to practice a bit first. I used invisible thread on my quilt, but I used white on my practice pieces. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
I was intimidated at first, but once I got in a "groove" I felt great. I think it turned out pretty nice and will definitely be meandering my way through my next quilts! </div>

I cannot wait to finish redecorating my bedroom! I will be hanging this quilt on the wall opposite my bed. It's going to look awesome!</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-u6fHLqbCcxk/T_IwjEWJyuI/AAAAAAAACXQ/C7X63mg23cE/s1600/pic+1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="238" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-u6fHLqbCcxk/T_IwjEWJyuI/AAAAAAAACXQ/C7X63mg23cE/s400/pic+1.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
How do you <b>bust</b> your fabric stash? This was part of my sewing desk a few weeks ago. This was only part of the fabric I have been hoarding! I pulled out all my fabric from the overflowing metal cabinet, from the large Ziplock bags I had stuffed in the closet, and from right there piled on the desk. I decided I needed to organize my fabric. I had so much, but I lost track of what exactly I had. So, I checked out the book, <i>Cut the Scraps!</i>, by Joan Ford and got busy. Ford calls it "Scraptherapy." She suggests cutting your scraps into the most commonly used square sizes: 5", 3", and 2 1/2". I started out following her directions, but then decided I don't like the 2 1/2" squares! I don't really see myself using such small squares, so I cut mine 5", 4", and 3". I think these sizes will work for me...for now anyway!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
So, after cutting a lot my squares, I now wonder how to organize them. I thought sorting by color would be the easiest. But, I have run into a few problem scraps. Here I have a pile (mostly) of reds. Would you put the black and red squares with the mostly reds or with the black scraps?</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-HROOST04aCk/T_I0T_z62WI/AAAAAAAACXc/5J-HLLiSGCs/s1600/Black+White+Red.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="350" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-HROOST04aCk/T_I0T_z62WI/AAAAAAAACXc/5J-HLLiSGCs/s400/Black+White+Red.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
And then there's the white with red Chinese writing squares. Should those go into the white/neutrals bin? Or should there be a separate bin just for Asian themed fabrics? I did sort all my batiks into one bin. Themes are much harder, I think, to sort by. Color has to be easiest right? So what color is this?</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-B7zdOvpbwDo/T_I1yJVYsgI/AAAAAAAACXk/cXUy57GupGk/s1600/Tie+Dye.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-B7zdOvpbwDo/T_I1yJVYsgI/AAAAAAAACXk/cXUy57GupGk/s400/Tie+Dye.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Blue? Red? Orange? I don't have a bin dedicated to tie dye...this is it for my collection. I guess I'll put these squares with my "Artist" scraps:</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-8bSLW54azj8/T_I2R-5MEdI/AAAAAAAACXs/R01F-txroyM/s1600/Artist+Fabric.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-8bSLW54azj8/T_I2R-5MEdI/AAAAAAAACXs/R01F-txroyM/s400/Artist+Fabric.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Unfortunately, this is my smallest pile! I suppose I will have to have a "random" bin for the scraps that don't fit anywhere else. I've made a dent in my stash, but I have more cutting to do. I haven't tackled my <i>mostly </i>blacks yet.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ZM71amvtXLc/T_I3wmX_2EI/AAAAAAAACX0/wwIdFH31dMM/s1600/Black+Pile+2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ZM71amvtXLc/T_I3wmX_2EI/AAAAAAAACX0/wwIdFH31dMM/s400/Black+Pile+2.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="background-color: white;">So far I have squares making up </span><i style="background-color: white;">mostly</i><span style="background-color: white;"> blues, </span><i style="background-color: white;">mostly</i><span style="background-color: white;"> pinks, </span><i style="background-color: white;">mostly</i><span style="background-color: white;"> browns (my biggest), </span><i style="background-color: white;">mostly</i><span style="background-color: white;"> reds, batiks, purples, and </span><span style="background-color: white;">neutrals</span><span style="background-color: white;">/whites. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="background-color: white;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-tCsEoSnoQpE/T_I38oP2guI/AAAAAAAACX8/rNy3A_FSrAg/s1600/Bins.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-tCsEoSnoQpE/T_I38oP2guI/AAAAAAAACX8/rNy3A_FSrAg/s400/Bins.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="background-color: white;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Some people sort their scraps by tone. Whether the fabric is dark or light. I thought about organizing mine this way, but I don't think this would work for me. I also thought about sorting by style, pattern, solid or patterned, or whether the fabric is "traditional" or modern. In the end, I think sorting by the dominate color is best for me. How do you organize your fabric collection? I'd love to know!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
In other news, I've finished my <a href="http://www.sewloquacious.blogspot.com/2012/06/ocean-waves-quilt-top.html" target="_blank">Ocean Waves Quilt</a>! I can't wait to show you! So, stay tuned! I need to upload the pictures I took before I post about it!</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
Despite the lack of rain in my neck of the woods the hydrangeas in my yard are in full bloom. They are absolutely gorgeous. The colors are similar to those in the fabrics I've used for my <a href="http://www.fatquartershop.com/Ocean-Wave-Batiks-Hoffman-Fabrics.asp?sid=100516205436100&Store_id=499" target="_blank">Ocean Wave Quilt</a>. I finished the top yesterday! Behold:</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-HJlaN81Id2I/T9UQJZEqNXI/AAAAAAAACW4/A5F5wq5I8gI/s1600/Wave+Quilt+Top.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="381" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-HJlaN81Id2I/T9UQJZEqNXI/AAAAAAAACW4/A5F5wq5I8gI/s400/Wave+Quilt+Top.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I didn't follow a pattern, but sketched out my ideas on graph paper. For someone lacking a math gene, this has proven challenging! However, I'm a pro at making half square triangles and thought they work well as the border around the <a href="http://www.sewloquacious.blogspot.com/2012/06/do-you-think-im-spooky.html" target="_blank">Wave Block </a>I designed. The top measures 42" X 42." I'm really happy with it. I purchased the back and binding fabric and will hopefully be able to get started on it ASAP. I've used the back fabric as the binding on all my quilts so far, but for this one, I'm using a different one.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-GGNsete16Zo/T9UV71I6drI/AAAAAAAACXE/xXTII6jO7SM/s1600/June+10,+2012+001.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-GGNsete16Zo/T9UV71I6drI/AAAAAAAACXE/xXTII6jO7SM/s320/June+10,+2012+001.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
They are both from <a href="http://www.hoffmanfabrics.com/" target="_blank">Hoffman</a>. The darker one (on top) is called, Cabana. I'll use this for the binding. The lighter fabric, for the back, is called, Montego. Aren't they awesome!? Of course I'll have to quilt it first! Any ideas? </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
Have a great weekend everyone!<br />

Kind of spooky huh? I thought this picture might grab your attention. Meet Powder Puff. I met her this past weekend. I took a mini vacation and traveled to Iowa for a few days. I met up with my sister and we attended her town's Relay for Life event. The relay itself is actually a run, but there were other activities throughout the day, culminating in a candle display to honor cancer victims and survivors. </div>

You won't see me in the crowd of runners, but a special friend of our family is there. He took second place! My sister and I decorated a bag in memory of our mom. It was breathtaking to see all the bags lit up around the square. I don't know how many bags there were, but the event took in over $90,000 for the cause! That's a lot of bags!</div>

It was a great weekend. My littlest daughter had a blast on the farm. She got to feed horses, play in a tree house, and swing on a tire swing! For a city gal, these activities are not common play for her. She loved the country!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-CWPV06Dhfbk/T81WAvcJ1wI/AAAAAAAACVk/hWttIGHDSW8/s1600/Tractor.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-CWPV06Dhfbk/T81WAvcJ1wI/AAAAAAAACVk/hWttIGHDSW8/s320/Tractor.jpg" width="191" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
During my trip I visited a few quilt shops. I bought two patterns that I will show you soon. I also bought background fabric for my <a href="http://www.sewloquacious.blogspot.com/2012/05/ocean-inspired-fabric-and-quilt-blocks.html" target="_blank">Wave Quilt</a>. I had previously purchased a white on white fabric to use, but when I saw a very subtle marble from Moda, I scooped it up. I think it goes really well with the batiks and I couldn't wait to get started! I sketched out a basic design for my quilt last night and today completed four wave blocks.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-XItgYYvDNz0/T81XtOuBHpI/AAAAAAAACVs/F4msZE0jSEc/s1600/Wave+Quilt+Design+1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-XItgYYvDNz0/T81XtOuBHpI/AAAAAAAACVs/F4msZE0jSEc/s320/Wave+Quilt+Design+1.jpg" width="296" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-V0CgY98aIvw/T81Xy0uMl_I/AAAAAAAACV0/wifG5Xp3L9k/s1600/Wave+Blocks+Together+2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="191" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-V0CgY98aIvw/T81Xy0uMl_I/AAAAAAAACV0/wifG5Xp3L9k/s320/Wave+Blocks+Together+2.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The blocks measure 14 inches each. I've placed them on top of a white blanket to help me "see" how they coordinate, etc. I plan to use the marble background fabric as sashing between these four blocks. I'm then planning on using the other batiks that came in the <a href="http://www.fatquartershop.com/Ocean-Wave-Batiks-Hoffman-Fabrics.asp?sid=100516205436100&Store_id=499" target="_blank">Ocean Waves</a> collection for an outside border all the way around. The colors are beautiful! Here are some close ups of each wave block:</div>

<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I'm so thrilled to have received my <a href="http://www.fatquartershop.com/Ocean-Wave-Batiks-Hoffman-Fabrics.asp?sid=100516205436100&Store_id=499" target="_blank">Ocean Waves Batiks</a> fat quarters a few days ago! I fell in love, again, with the collection after opening the package. They are beautiful! I've been searching the internet and books, including <a href="http://www.amazon.com/5-500-Quilt-Block-Designs/dp/1402720475" target="_blank">5,500 Quilt Block Designs</a> by Maggie Malone, for a quilt pattern using these fabrics. I want to use a block design that makes the fabric appear to be moving...like a wave. I came across the Snail's Trail and the Journey to California blocks. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-7hq3iGaBel4/T8amwDhK6WI/AAAAAAAACT8/SKGqHFr9e-s/s1600/snails_trail_block.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="200" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-7hq3iGaBel4/T8amwDhK6WI/AAAAAAAACT8/SKGqHFr9e-s/s200/snails_trail_block.jpg" width="200" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://quilting.about.com/od/quiltpatternsprojects/ss/snails_trail_4.htm" target="_blank">Snail's Trail Block from About.com</a><br /></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
</div>
The blocks look very similar. I think they look pretty "wave-like," but if I could only use the "top" of the block. Hmmm. Here is what I've come up with:<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-mUC0DwvCBRM/T8aq8MYuUkI/AAAAAAAACUM/VSgUQ3Q6BiI/s1600/Wave+Block.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="259" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-mUC0DwvCBRM/T8aq8MYuUkI/AAAAAAAACUM/VSgUQ3Q6BiI/s320/Wave+Block.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I've been cutting up my scraps for several days so I had a bunch right in front of me to experiment with. I used 8 blue squares and 2 off-white squares plus 5 half square triangles. The block that ends the wave was the hardest for me to figure out. I haven't made anything like this square before. Here is my sketch on graph paper (drawing on graph paper makes me a real quilter now huh?):</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-mXvr9R3eN2A/T8asFQ0ngBI/AAAAAAAACUU/PVDZ3ujHXEU/s1600/Wave+Block+Notes+Close+Up.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-mXvr9R3eN2A/T8asFQ0ngBI/AAAAAAAACUU/PVDZ3ujHXEU/s320/Wave+Block+Notes+Close+Up.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/--FDPwMjrkFA/T8awC4x7SqI/AAAAAAAACU4/lQVs07eoP-4/s1600/Wave+Block+Close+Up.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/--FDPwMjrkFA/T8awC4x7SqI/AAAAAAAACU4/lQVs07eoP-4/s320/Wave+Block+Close+Up.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I'm not sure what this "special" square is called, or even if it a real design. Basically, it's a blue triangle sewed to two smaller, one blue and one off-white, triangles. I decided on a 16 patch block. It measures at 14 inches completed. I think I'll stick with this size, but now I need to decide the design for the overall quilt. I have 12 batik fat quarters to work with and have purchased a white on white solid to use as well. Any ideas? </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I mentioned earlier that I have been cutting up my scraps for the past several days. I started this project while cleaning up and cleaning out my sewing room, AKA my <i>studio</i>. My fabric stash was so disorganized! I'm not nearly finished, but I did come across some fabric I forgot I had. Before I knew what a charm pack was, a friend gave me one. It is called, Wildflower Serenade. It's from Moda. I decided to use up these charms to make a table topper for my friend who gave me the fabric.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-vOIwFdE9tOo/T8av0J29KbI/AAAAAAAACUo/AOqacoFwFwM/s1600/Wildflower+Table+Topper+1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-vOIwFdE9tOo/T8av0J29KbI/AAAAAAAACUo/AOqacoFwFwM/s320/Wildflower+Table+Topper+1.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-LZmWQEM02dA/T8av3DZdP9I/AAAAAAAACUw/JCcGbTjgtY0/s1600/Wildflower+Table+Topper+Close+Up.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-LZmWQEM02dA/T8av3DZdP9I/AAAAAAAACUw/JCcGbTjgtY0/s320/Wildflower+Table+Topper+Close+Up.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I made the center heart applique using cut up charms and fusible web. I "quilted" the heart with off-white thread. I quilted the rest of the piece with clear thread. I had several four patches leftover, so I made a hooped wall hanging to match. I bought the wooden hoop for $1.00! </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-4anDj-snd1A/T8aw0o0KuDI/AAAAAAAACVA/Lm6VF26CLOs/s1600/Wildflower+Hoop+Hanging.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-4anDj-snd1A/T8aw0o0KuDI/AAAAAAAACVA/Lm6VF26CLOs/s320/Wildflower+Hoop+Hanging.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I hope everyone is enjoying the beginnings of summer! I have several sewing projects in the works, including a couple of vintage dresses for my oldest daughter, a blouse for me, and more skirts for my littlest daughter. I'm also going to tackle a baby Jon Jon for my cousin's newest little one! I cannot wait to start on my Waves Quilt! I am thinking that project will go to the top of my list! </div>

<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Newsflash: I'm not a scientist! I flunked chemistry and never even considered taking physics at school. However, I'm cheap. I mean, I don't like to spend a lot of money if I can avoid it. Considering Bubble Jet Set costs anywhere from $15 to $22 a bottle, I decided to try to make my own. I do not want the disaster that occurred after I washed my <a href="http://www.sewloquacious.blogspot.com/2012/05/another-lesson-learned.html" target="_blank">Bunny Quilt</a> to happen again!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-rfvunR7Hfvk/T71SR9nDY8I/AAAAAAAACTM/SlTMAcrWzmg/s1600/bubble+jet+set.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-rfvunR7Hfvk/T71SR9nDY8I/AAAAAAAACTM/SlTMAcrWzmg/s1600/bubble+jet+set.jpg" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I searched the internet for a homemade Bubble Jet Set recipe. Here is the most simple version I could find:</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Wg4Puzitu7Q/T71NXS4M7-I/AAAAAAAACSk/ZPxf_wNeQ-Q/s1600/05-22-12+013.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Wg4Puzitu7Q/T71NXS4M7-I/AAAAAAAACSk/ZPxf_wNeQ-Q/s400/05-22-12+013.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
2 tablespoons of Alum (the stuff used when canning pickles)</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
2 1/2 teaspoons washing soda (not baking soda) (I found this in the grocery store)</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
1/2 teaspoon liquid fabric softner</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
1 cup of hot water</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Mix the first 3 ingredients and then add the hot water. Stir. It will be foamy.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-AMK16zC671Q/T71PGaZwzEI/AAAAAAAACS0/XuYi3F8UiH8/s1600/05-22-12+015.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-AMK16zC671Q/T71PGaZwzEI/AAAAAAAACS0/XuYi3F8UiH8/s400/05-22-12+015.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
When the foam eases, soak your fabric for 15 minutes. Wring out and dry completely. I poured the leftover mix into a baby food jar to save for future use.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-JdSAFGkhgBM/T71Srx1g67I/AAAAAAAACTU/2Iz0Q_m-_sM/s1600/05-22-12+021.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-JdSAFGkhgBM/T71Srx1g67I/AAAAAAAACTU/2Iz0Q_m-_sM/s320/05-22-12+021.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
When my fabric was dry (I cheated and put it in the dryer), I ironed freezer paper to it and ran it through my printer. I used the same bunny image I used for my quilt.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
Yay! It worked! Before I use a printed image on a quilt or table topper again, however, I think I will do more testing, ahem, <i>experimenting</i>. It faded a bit, but nothing like before! For the most part: SUCCESS!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
One more thing: School's out! That means sewing summer clothes for my littlest daughter! Yep, every summer, I try to make a few dresses and skirts for her. Here is Charlotte's first skirt for Summer 2012:</div>
