Sew and Sew Sunday

Sew I have been a busy bee this weekend! I made this super easy (when I say "easy" it is EASY) dress as well as a pair of Capri's for my daughter. I scored this fabric and McCall's pattern at Joann's Super Saturday sale. I also bought the fabric for the Capri's as well as for a pair of shorts there. It looks sort of "retro" doesn't it?

I must admit that the Capri's were a bit tricky. I sorted it out in the end by not following the pattern, but by following the directions from a shorts pattern instead. I altered the design as well by adding the trim at the bottoms of each leg. I thought this "diva-fied" them. What do you think?

Okay, two dresses, Capri's, one pair of shorts (done), one more to go...haven't even made a dent in my to do list have I? There is always tomorrow!

Halter Weather!

It is sunny and nearly 50 degrees in the Midwest! Well, partly sunny...or partly cloudy? Anyway, I hear birds chirping and see a tinge of green in the grass...and that's not the St. Patrick's Day Eve green beer talking. It may be partly sunny and 50 (probably more like 42), but when folks are donning capris and sandals to run to Walmart, that means Spring is just round the corner and that screams summer halter weather is not far behind! In celebration, I took advantage of the recent Butterick pattern sale at JoAnn's and picked up three halter patterns. To be honest, I haven't worn a halter since I was probably 13. That was a long, long time ago. I've decided, however, I've earned the right to wear whatever I want now. I do need to work on my tan though. I mean the wings are one thing, but to be so white I could glow in the dark, well, that's really not a 'good thing.'

I think I will start with the 6 Sew Easy pattern. It seems the simplest. I am a novice here, so there may be some cursing involved. I'll keep you posted.
Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Nancy, I'm Sorry

I'm sorry Nancy. I have failed to create your adjustable straps. Last night I made the straps for my messenger bag and thought I would be able to finish them a la adding the adjustable thingies today. I was wrong! After watching (again) Nancy make the straps (thank God I recorded this episode), I realized that I should NOT have sewn the straps together. In order to add the fabric "adjustable tabs" the straps should only be cut and pressed. So, I can either rip out both straps and start over (insert expletives here), cut two new fabric strips, or use the straps I've already made by sewing them directly to the bag or to d-rings I'll have to install. I haven't decided what I'll do yet.

Instead of stressing over how to "fix" my bag tonight, I decided to add a few more faves to my Crafty Faves list. I've also added a link to pages showing some of my recent projects. I've only added photos of the projects. The Zakka inspired purse matches the coin purse I detailed in my second post. The pajamas were made out of flannel I bought at JoAnn's. I had a pattern for the nightgown, but I totally winged the bed jacket by using just the top portion of the robe pattern that was included with the nightgown. The kimonos were really fun to make. I hope to add Tutorial pages in the future.

Wish me luck with my straps tomorrow!
