Flea Market Friday...Tuesday

I haven't written a Flea Market Friday post in ages.  Actually, since January!  It was shortly after this last post that my work scheduled changed and I was no longer off on Fridays.  No longer was I able to visit flea markets, antique malls, garage sales and estate sales...on Fridays, anyway.  Well, guess what?  It's Friday and today I am posting about some of the great finds I came across at a local antique mall I visited.  Okay, I visited the mall on Tuesday, not Friday.  (Since I am off work recovering from my knee surgery, Tuesday could be Friday, Thursdays can be Saturdays!  Who cares!)  It was a short visit, as it's still difficult for me to get around.  I've "graduated" to a cane, but it's still difficult to "walk" around and my knee is still quite sore.  Anyway, I came across a lot of "stuff" in the mall. Here is a small sample:

1950s Needlework (LOVE IT)

Vintage Washing Machine (What? Barbaric!)

1950s Bed Jacket (COOL!)

Vintage Tied Quilt (Hexies..right?)

Vintage Tea Pot
In previous Flea Market Friday excursions, I usually focused on one style, element, or item.  For example, during one trip, I focused on handbags.  Although I didn't lean toward one thing during today's trip, I seemed to be partial to tea pots.  I even bought a tea set.  I'm not sure how "vintage" it is, but I think the set is pretty neat.  It is a set of 6 cups and saucers, cream and sugar dishes, and the tea pot.  It is designed with a dragon motif, which is textural.  The pieces are stamped "Japan" on the bottoms.

So why did I visit the antique mall on Tuesday?  It was my anniversary!  My husband, who is off work to "take care of me," and I went to lunch and then stopped at the antique mall.  I can't believe it's been another year.  I posted about our seven year anniversary last year!  Here's to 8!  Time really does fly!

Be sure to check out the Charitable Links Page.  I've added a few more links to charities collecting hand made items for their causes, including a link to a charity in New Zealand. that is collecting hand knit penguin jumpers!

Some Flea Market Finds...Finally

It seems like forever since I posted some Flea Market Friday stuff!  So, here are some of my recent treasured finds:

Aren't these terrific?!  A few weeks ago I found the Summer and Fall Simplicity catalogs from 1969!  They are full of fabulous photos and illustrations of fashions from that year.  (The photo I took of the Summer catalog would not post...for some unknown reason, it wouldn't appear right-side up??).

Have a look at these vintage goodies:

These items were actually given to me by a friend who was cleaning out his mother's home.  It is mostly a bunch of vintage maps and several books of "green stamps."  I wonder if they are still worth anything??  I doubt it, but they are fun and bring back memories of my childhood.  The book of Value Stamps pictured above is from 1966.  No, I wasn't even born yet, but I do remember my mother collecting stamps in the early 1970s in turn in for dinnerware at the grocery store!

Have a great weekend everyone!

Toodles!

7 Years! Time Flies When You're Married to Your BFF!

Happy 7Years of wedding bliss!  Well, that's mushy isn't it?  My hubby and I spent this past weekend celebrating our 7 year wedding anniversary.  We spent our entire three day weekend hanging out and trying to get stuff done at home.  We managed to slip away for an awesome dinner out, too.  This is a very rare thing...we normally have our 5 1/2 year old in tow!  I chose the above picture to post as it was taken last summer outside Charleston, S.C. (at Angel Oak) and was one of the best vacations ever.  I also decided on this photo because it pretty much says who we are.  I mean I look pretty serious, which I guess I am most of the time.  Some would call this "boring."  I wouldn't, but hey.  On the other hand, Doug (or "Dougster") looks fun and carefree...which, he is..most of the time.  He is actually a very postive, upbeat person.  In my line of work, this attitude helps, although, admittedly, I don't tell him about most things I see on the job.  I think he just knows when I've reached my limit and he is always just there for me.   He is a great husband and a great daddy!
Photo credit goes to our daughter, Charlotte...you can probably tell she is quite a bit shorter than us...but she is a super photographer isn't she?!
NOTE:  Yes, this is the second picture I've posted of me wearing those sunglasses...unfortunately they broke last week!  I immediately went into a "level 9 meltdown," and haven't fully recovered.  They were (are) my faves.

I can't wait to post the pictures of the great stuff I found during our Flea Market extravaganza!  I found a terrific desk to put in my studio, a beautiful dresser scarf, and a pair of white gloves, a la Jackie O.  I found the gloves and immediately thought they would look awesome with my Hepburn coat.  Speaking of the coat, I made a lot of progress this weekend, however I am sure I've gone wrong somewhere.  I pretty sure the mistake is somewhere in the facing department.  Here are some pictures:

I managed to sew the darts, which, I think, actually turned out okay, but the collar is, frankley, stupid looking.  When I tried it on and looked it the mirror, it reminded me of something...I couldn't quite put my finger on what, but tell me what you think:

Am I right?  Yes.  I must fix this or start over.  Enough said.

I hope you have a look at the "Dark" ATC cards making their way onto the blogs.  You can see all the participants at Blissfull ATC Swap.  When I recieve Leila's card, I will post it.  She'll then post the card I sent her.  Of all I've seen so far, they are all pretty creepy!

Toodles for now!

P.S.  I walked through two invisible spiderwebs today and I'm still itching!

Flea Market Finds & Page 3

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month
Thanks to all for your sweet comments regarding "My First Dress!"  I had a great time making October's dress and am already thinking about what to do for November's and December's dresses.  I'm totally bummed that the Dress Challenge 2010 will end with December's dress and  Margaret, unfortunately, has decided not host a Dress Challenge 2011.  I've been thinking about hosting it if unless one of the other participants already plans to.  Anyway, I wanted to show you some of the stuff I scored during my Flea Market Friday.  I also managed to hit a few thrift / vintage shops over the weekend.

The first picture is of a silk (I think) circle.  I'm not sure what it is...I mean I can't call it a table cloth because it isn't very large.  I don't think I can call it a dresser scarf because it is a circle...so ??  Whatever it is called, it is beautiful.  The bird, tree, and flowers are embroidered.  I was told this silk circle came from the estate of a well known lady in the town I was visiting.  I also bought another item from this estate, however I plan on giving this to my daughter for her birthday, so I won't show a photo of it until after her big day!  These items, along with several others, were on sale in order to support the town's art society.

The second picture is of a few vintage sewing patterns as well as a Vogue pattern catalogue from 1974!  Sew cool!  The last picture is of a collection of Foreign Travel magazine.  The collection begins in November 1934 and, save one, it is complete through December 1935!  I found collection, along with a ton of books, at a local thrift shop.  I feel I hit pay dirt here!  I found an entire room of books!  I actually felt guilty walking away from this store after only paying $2.00 for the magazine collection!  These magazines are full of terrific photos and graphics.  I originally went shopping to find cheap books to cut up for different paper crafts.  Honestly, I find the thought of cutting up books something I will have a hard time doing...even cheap books.  Is that weird?  Well, I will not cut up these magazines, however I did find a few books that will be sacrificed for the sake of art!

This then brings me to the third page of my Discovering Myself Journal.  I've finished this page and I "jazzed" up pages 1 and 2 with some stickers and gold thread.  I cut up my first book last night.  Well, I cut a page up; the page depicting Western Europe.  I glued Great Britain, Norway, and Sweden onto Page 3.  The ticket says, "What I Miss Most About Childhood..."

My answer here:  No Fears.  I also miss people, places, and feelings.  You know the feeling at Christmas, the feeling like time moves so slowly, the feeling like you can fly, disappear, leap tall buildings.  I didn't have room for all these, so I stuck with, "No Fears."

Here are my "jazzed" up Pages 1 and 2:

Well, that's all for now.  I hope to work on Page 4 ASAP.  I will post it when it is complete!  I hope you all have a super Wednesday and rest of the week!

Oh, be sure to click on Wendy's 12 Days of Christmas ATC Swap button on my sidebar and join in on the fun.

Toodles for now!
