Two Rewind Projects and The Top 1970s Movies! Can You Dig It!?

The Godfather

Are you ready for two great Rewind Projects?!  Great!  Before I get to the fantastic artwork, here are some quotes from the Academy Award winning movies from the 1970s.  See if you can guess which movies they are from.  You will see the movies listed at the end of today's post.  Good luck!

If Mr. McMurphy doesn't want to take his medication orally, I'm sure we can arrange that he can have it some other way.

"I'm gonna make him an offer he can't refuse"

All right, Popeye's here! get your hands on your heads, get off the bar, and get on the wall!

A relationship I think, is like a shark. It has to constantly move forward or it dies. And I think what we got on our hands is a dead shark.

There are many things my father taught me here in this room. He taught me: keep your friends close, but your enemies closer.

The place is great...It's like a resort...I mean they got basketball, bowling...Princess Grace came to see us the other day.

We built a life together. We wake up and have breakfast and I take him to school and then I pick him up after school and we have dinner together and...I read him a bedtime story...I'm not always the perfect father...but I'm there. I'm there.
Luther said I could learn from you. I already know how to drink.

An entire world at war and I'm left out of it? God will not permit this to happen! I will be allowed to fulfill my destiny!

Yo, Adrian, it's me..

Today I am posting Rebecca's and Sally's projects!  Rebecca is a Bloggerette and a terrific artist!  Her work is simply stunning.  You can find her and her work on her blog, A Rabbit In The Garden.  Sally is from "Down Under."  She is also a fellow Bloggerette and a great artist.  Check out her work at Sally's Journey

Thanks Rebecca.  Here's looking at you:

This 6 x 4 card is for Rewind Week at the Bloggerette Sorority commemorating the 1970's. I was in my twenties in the seventies, and it was a tumultuous time. Forty years later, I have no fondness for the colors or fashion of that era! It was a time of Love and Peace (not really!), drugs, Afros, Disco, Flower Children, unrest, Nixon's resignation, gas shortage and much more. I'm not nostalgic about the 1970's!

The background of the card is a floral burlap. The peace symbol is red metal (although the red isn't showing very well). I attached it to a tag in seventy colors with a firecracker brad, because it was an explosive time! Of course, you can't think about that decade without including bellbottom pants, and these have psychedelic colors swirling on them. The card is finished off with metallic painted grungeboard letters and numbers and I used a Gold Leaf pen around the edges.

Thanks to you Sally.  Your project is great:

The Inspiration for my project was my top that I wore in the seventies and have never parted with. Not so much the style of it or the colour but the memories of that time in my life, I grew up in the seventies, became a teenager, learnt how to ride a bike, had a horse, got my first boyfriend, it was a mad time but I wouldnt change it for the world.  So this is my 1970's!

My project consists of memorabilia from the seventies, my beautiful purple hoop earrings, a piece of my ballroom dancing dress and some of my medals, a flatsy doll (it is a reproduction ~sigh) but they were a big thing in the late seventies and I loved them also a Holly Hobbie Doll, I have quite a few.  Watching Lost in Space on TV in black and white I still remember fondly, my brothers and I used to rush home from school to get all our chores done to sit down and watch it.  And everyone had Dragstar Bikes and I spent many hours happily riding with my brothers and friends.  I was 15 or 16 when Saturday Night Fever came out and I was an avid ballroom dancer and it was all about the glitter, disco fever, the frilly costumes, big hair and the fashion, being a girly girl I loved to wear dresses and my mum did a great job making the pant suits with the puffy sleeves and big flowers and the gorgeous floaty dresses, I felt like a princess!!  I grew up in the Seventies and it was awesome!

My name is Sally-Anne Russell and my blogs are "Sally's Journey" and "SallyBarbie"they are personal blogs about my journey in life thus far.

Let's Get Down! (and then back up again) It's the 70s Baby!!

Welcome to the Funkadelic 1970s!

Our first crafter of the week is Wendy, From Bliss Angels  as well as Blissfull ATC Swap!  Wendy is an accomplished artist and I am thrilled that she participated in this first Sew Loquacious event!  I am also grateful for her friendship and introducing me to another artform...ATC.  Thanks Wendy!

When I saw Angela's post about rewind week  I thought "oh heck I hated the 70s".  I was seven in 1970 and in 1979 I was 16 years old.... I remember some parts of the 70s as wonderful but others were terrible.

I am a person who remembers events in the clothes I wore, some people it is smells or songs but me it is clothes and wow did I remember some terrible clothes in the 70s.

Pippa Dee party were all the rage and I remember my mum buying a outfit from them; it had blue and white flowers in a valor fabric and had shiny pants to wear with it.... what I didn't like was that you could wear it to sleep in.... I remember going to school and some boy asking me if I had forgotten to get dress... that was the last time I wore it... I hid it under my bed and there it stayed until I out grew it.

I also remember the 1st pair of heels, well tree stumps would be a better description. They were platforms with a wedge heel . They were solid wood, so very  heavy and very tall. The first time I wore them out was to walk down the village. I  twisted my ankle and had the limp home. Of course I had to listen my mum's "I told you so." so I bet your wondering what were the good parts of the 70s? well I was young, the music to the most part was pretty good Michele Jackson, Donny Osmond  and David  Cassidy  to name a few BUT I was in love with the BAY CITY ROLLERS... I was going to marry Woody.

So in light of my love of 70's clothes my rewind project is this .... A depiction of 70's clothes at they best. The writing at the back of my figure in the words to my next favorite song Jimmy Osmonds "long haired lover from liverpool" Hugs Wendy at http://blissangels.blogspot.com/

Thanks again Wendy!

Stay tuned for more Project Posts and pictures!

I Got Dem Ol' Kozmic Blues...The Tooth Fairy Paid Out...Groovy

No, I don't have the blues! Just singing...
Thanks for the emails and comments regarding the Tooth Fairy's current rate.  The little lady gave up $1.00 and the Diva Daughter was super happy with this.  I actually think she was more pleased that the TF took the card she had made and left under her pillow, along with her tooth!

I am happy it is Friday..'cause I love Fridays, but it also means I only have one more full day of vacation before going back to work!  Boo hiss!  What will I do my last day?  Hmmm....oh, work on REWIND WEEK 1970s!  Actually, I am finished with my Rewind project and can't wait to post pictures of it.  I also can't wait to post the pictures of all who participated!  This has been a really fun project and I am so happy that I got a chance to meet some new blogger friends through it.  I've also gotten exposed to other art mediums that I may not have even looked at before visiting the different blogs that are a part of the Bloggerette Sorority!

One of these artists I have been exposed to is Cindy Atkins. I invite you to slip over to a link party at I Owe It All To Him.  Cindy's question for today is:

What is your favorite song?

This is an easy peasy one for me to answer.  And it totally relates to Rewind Week 1970s!  Can you guess what it is by the last verse?

I met a girl who sang the blues
And I asked her for some happy news
But she just smiled and turned away
I went down to the sacred store
Where I'd heard the music years before
But the man there said the music wouldn't play
And in the streets the children screamed
The lover cried, and the poets dreamed
But not a word was spoken
The church bells all were broken
The three men I admire most
The Father, Son and Holy Ghost
They caught the last train for the coast
The day the music died.

American Pie 1971

Don McClean's American Pie.  That girl who sang the blues, is one of my favorites....Janis Joplin (1943- 1970).
Janis Joplin
In the words of Janis, "Don't compromise yourself.  You are all you've got."

With that, I will leave you with some more images from the 1970s.  They are taken from television (my babysitter in the 70s), movies, politics, art, and war.  I hope you all come back during Rewind Week and have a look at what these beautiful, creative, ladies have made to share with us all.  So, get your lava lamps warming and turn up your Saturday Night Fever 8 track!  Remember, if it is too loud...you are too old!

Saturday Night Fever 1977
TV History
Brady Bunch 1969-1974
Oil Crisis 1973
The Patridge Family 1970-1974
The fall of Saigon April 30, 1975
Danish Ad
Carter and Brezhnev 1979
The Electric Company 1971-1977

Farrah's famous poster (Farrah Fawcett 1947-2009)
The Muppet Show 1976-1981
Iran Hostage Crisis (Held Nov. 4, 1979 to Jan. 20, 1981)
I hope these images jog some memories for some of you.  For those too young to remember any of these things, take the opportunity to ask your mom or dad or grandparents about their memories of this decade.  I bet they will enjoy talking about their memories and feel great that you asked them.

Toodles for now!
